Pentax K-5: How come no one told me?!

I was just browsing around and came across this camera. It seems amazing! Does anyone have it?? How come no one told me about this before getting the D7000? The guy at the store was like... "well you have the D7000 on the Nikon side, 7D on the Canon". This thing is basically the D7000 but with better image quality, superior ISO performance, Image Stabilization built into the body?? I could've saved a lot of money without having to buy VR lenses... And it is only marginally more expensive than the D7000.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with this camera? Is it has good as it seems?

Comparable quality non VR lenses from other companies are sometimes more expensive than VR/IS lenses.

Grrr.. clear indication that Pentax has Failed at marketing..... If you haven't heard, Pentax was recently sold to Ricoh (after being sold to to Hoya several years earlier). In my mind, this places their future as questionable.

No one at the store even bothered to recommend this camera. I asked "I'm looking for something like the D7000, any good alternatives" and the guy at the store basically showed me the 7D.

This is the history of Pentax - IMO, they have always been the best bang for the buck in both bodies and glass (Think: Pentax LX). Pentax has always produced excellent quality, and always been an abysmal failure at marketing, 'though since they went digital, it's gotten even worse.

Perhaps the store isn't a Pentax dealer? Don't think for one minute the sales guy has your interest as their top priority.

Do you understand the limitations that apply by having image stabilization in the camera body, rather than in the lens?

The bottom line is - you are responsible for doing your own research and making your own buying decisions, rather than saying, "Pentax K-5: How come no one told me?!"

You know, always trust the guy with a saleman title. He's the expert, yeah that's it.

The fact is MOST of Pentax's entire product line has been ignored by most consumers. The brand has been bleeding money for the last fifteen years. Pentax has never been able to get its chit together and keep it together. Their products have been mostly good over the decades, but lately they've had some major failures. Pentax was unable or unwilling to get a d-slr on the market until it was too late, and when they did, the image quality was sub-par. Pentax's smaller size and lack of marketing acumen has just killed the brand. Too little, too late. Pentax was sold to the Hoya people a while back, and now they have sold it to Ricoh. Pentax makes nice stuff...but they've been bad, very bad, at marketing it, for decades now.
