But the word "Bokeh" Annoys the **** out of me.

It was once a word that sparked interest, now it seems to be one that makes me twitch.

Is there anyone else that is annoyed by the cliché use of this silly word?

From what Iv'e gathered from hundreds of posts, Bokeh=Blur. I know that's not the case, but Jesus, people claim that ****ty pictures are great because of bokeh......

Just because people irrationally judge a picture because of it's quality of bokeh, or simply the presence of bokeh, doesn't make it in itself 'stupid'.

If you know the history, the word actually comes from the Japanese, and expresses much more meaning than simply blur. Yes, that's a literal translation, but as with many Japanese and Chinese words, the translation is tricky and it's not just cut and dry.

No, I'm not saying I like the word "blur" more.

What I'm saying is that I feel it's over used and sometimes an excuse for a horrible photo. The definition you've given me is what I've learned the word to mean (which created my mild irritation). Please notice what I've highlighted in your quote. You basically agreed with what I'm saying, but perhaps you've done it in a more forum friendly manner. Thanks for that

Frankly I have yet to see a photo that was made good or bad solely because of the bokeh. TBH I don't remember anyone talking bokeh until I joined forums except for that of mirror lenses which, admitedly, is a bit weird.

I'm not referring to Bokeh as being a technique or skill.


I just find it amusing that I posted a thread that I couldn't find another reference to and this bull**** bokeh thread gets all of the attention

At least I know what to share and where to share now.
