Photos NOT OK to edit
HI! :waves: Forum n00b here... figured I'd introduce myself before anything...

Joined up here for a few reasons, the most 'important' being that I'm looking to start researching getting my own DSLR. Figured this would be one of the best places to start.

And being a designer, and someone who does enjoy playing around with a camera (even if it's a little P&S), I might as well find yet another outlet for all my creative energy (a big part of the reason I've decided to look into DSLRs). Plus, people say I have a good eye for photography... so yea

I also model, and think this would be a good opportunity to learn some of the more technical stuff to keep improving that aspect of things.

Uh... I think that's it.

Hi Rach, welcome to TPF. Post often, will ya?... ;)

Well, I'm prob going to lurk for a little before I become a PW ;)

For now, I've decided instead of getting a DSLR to start with a 35mm SLR. Mostly because of $$$$$$$ (or my lack of it). My dad has the Nikon D70, so I've decided to go with Nikon so we can possibly share lenses (and so that if he decides to upgrade I can buy the D70 body off him and use what I've got).

Anyway, I found a seemingly great deal on eBay--35mm Nikon N70 that comes with a Sigma 28-80 macro lens, a Tiffen Sky 1A filter and a Hoya 80A filter. I asked if they'll settle for cash-in-hand pickup instead of dealing with eBay, since they're local (less than 15 miles from home) and am waiting for a response. The auction ends tomorrow and there's 0 bids, so I'm crossing my fingers. It's all under $50!

Macro work is my favorite. While I enjoy shooting general landscape and people, I find macro stuff much more intimate and fun to shoot. So that's what I'm going to concentrate on with this camera. I have my dig P&S for the other stuff... and while it has a macro setting, I think an 'upgrade' would be better if I really want to get serious. That said, here are a couple shots (which I used in a 2007 calendar) I took with my P&S (Nikon CoolPix 5600):

So yea... back to lurking for me... for now ;)

what!!! how can you lurk with photos as good as "december" ????

Aww thanks :)

I suppose I feel like I have a lot to learn still... don't know *any* technical stuff... just have a good eye for things. Years of art classes and drawing/painting, and just a general knack for creative stuff, as well as college courses in layout and design... I've really never taken a photography class or anything...
