Photo Compressing App

Hey guys,

Would anybody find useful an mobile phone app that autocompresses all the photos (even if you have hundreds or more) using jpeg compression? The dimensions of each photo would remain unchanged, but it would merely resave the file using compression (resulting in 20-60% saved space).

You are saving space but losing quality.
Perhaps downloading the files and resizing copies is a way to procede

The photos in phones are already compress with jpeg compression, they are jpeg files! So how is this app going to compress them even more without completely trashing the quality?

The entire reason why I bring this up is because, just because the file format is jpg, doesn't mean that optimal compression has been applied to the photos. I frequently need to resave, via Paint, the photos from my phone/camera so that they get compressed. Visually, I see absolutely no difference in quality between the before and after. Maybe if you zoomed super close 20x or something, you might be able to see differences in the pixels.

The difference in size would result in significantly less space used, especially if you have hundreds or thousands of pictures. I'm really wondering if anybody else has thoughts or experience about this or if it would be useful at all to anybody if it was automated via an app.

most of the time in my desktop i use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to compress my High Quality pics.

A couple of summers ago there was an AMAZING free application for iPhone that applied revolutionary, extremely heavy yet amazingly good compression. The application was called Beamr. I downloaded it. It was ASTOUNDINGLY good. It allowed you to select mutliple full-resolution JPEG photos from the high-rez camera, and just click-click-click-click-click-click on say five images or even ten images, and it would automativally assemble them and create what was called "a magazine", with a cover, and then the photos inside, in a layout....one click on each pic and it would expand. The degree of compression was *******astounding******, allowing me to e-mail/text 20-megabyte, multi-JPEG images from a 3G connection in as little as 20 seconds of send time.

Compression percentage was up to 80% or thereabouts.

Guess what: the app and underlying high compression routine has been bought out by another company...but YES---such an application has tremendous potential if it allows smart phone users to send multiple full-rez files in just seconds at compression in the 250:1 ratio with the kind of astounding quality that Beamr allowed.
