It's not perfect.. I took it with my old 50mm f/1.8.

I now have a 50 mm f/1.4. Can't wait to see what I can do with it Finally have a respectable lens.

Yes, a good portrait. The 1.4 should give you a smoother background, but otherwise not much difference. The 1.8 was my favorite lens until I got the 35 f2 IS early this year (after the price had come down to something reasonable), and I only favor the 35 because of the IS.
