What program should I use to edit my photos?

Whats your budget? I prefer Photoshop because it is by far the most powerful photo editing program out on the market, but Adobe lightroom is great for beginners and has a much smaller price tag. Lightroom is also a great way to organize photos as well.

Lightroom is more for organizing and is a decent RAW editor ( same one that is included in photoshop as Adobe Camera Raw ), but it is not geared towards in depth editing. I would recommend photoshop as well if you are looking for strictly an editor. If you are a student, the discount is pretty good.

I'm on a Mac, I use:

Aperture 3 - Library management and basic edits/proofing
Pixelmator - Heavy editing, and it's > photoshop in my opinion (price/feature ratio)
Photomatix Pro Plugins - For B&W and HDR
