What tools do you use to edit photos?

I am looking at options from Google search, but I would like to ask the community here what free (or paid) tools do you use to edit your photos? I am looking for a software to use to enhance my photography, preferably free and compatible with my Windows computer.

Not sure if this will help or not...
I use Canon's Digital Photo Professional and Corel's Paint Shop Pro 2023, and neither of them run well on my 6yo laptop. DPP takes over a minute to process any changes during editing, and PSP is simply slow and unresponsive.

I guess what I'm saying is that success will depend on how good your computer is! Mine is a 10th generation i7 with 8GB ram and separate graphics and simply is not in the race. In theory this meets the minimum specs to run and I guess it does run, but check the program's requirements and take advantage of any trial period!

I use an older version of DXO Photolab 8 to turn NEF (Nikon RAW files) into something editable and Affinity for everything else.
I stopped using Nikon NX Studio when they started to ask for waaaaay to much personal information.

I use Pentax Digital Camera Utility 5 and Photoshop CS6. DCU5 was free, bundled with my Pentax K-70 body. I still use Photoshop CS6 because I prefer buying software to renting it. CS6 does everything that I need it to do.

I use RawTherapee; from what I hear it's functionally comparable to Lightroom and it's free.

Affinity is free. There is a steep learning curve, but between asking Ai and youtube videos even I am starting to get the hang of it.

What camera do you use? Camera manufacturers provide some free software you can use.

RawTherapee when I shoot RAW (not often) and The Gimp for cropping, resizing, and rotation (I have a really bad habit of holding my cameras at a slight angle).

Thanks all for your replies! I will try RawTherapee for editing my RAW images.

As for the type of camera I have, I own a Panasonic Lumix FZ300. This is my first camera I had 10 years ago, and I just decided to pick it up again. I am enjoying shooting with it so far, but I haven't really gotten into editing/ enhancing my pictures.

I use adobe lightroom classic. I have tried capture one too but stay with adobe as it interacts with photoshop too

I’ve only shot in raw over the years. Just switched from a Nikon to a Canon.

I’ve used Lightroom Classic for years, still haven’t used it to its full potential.

I decided to try Capture One for one year to give it a fair shot.

Time will tell.

I've had good results with Darktable and RawTherapee for free RAW editing on Windows. If you're willing to pay, Adobe Lightroom is hard to beat for its workflow and editing tools.

My Fujufilm Finepix camras (S4200 and S4500) both have electronic viewfinders with guides I can turn on and off, which makes using them great. I have to switch to my display from the viewfinder to use it with my 60D, which is the camera I use at least 90% of the time.
