Photos for C&C (8 month old baby)

I really want to get better with outdoor lighting, and exposure, well everything really. Shot with my Canon EOS 20d; 50mm lens. All at 2.8/f 1/250 and 100ISO. Please give me all the C&C you can think of to help a girl out! Thanks in advance! also, I've noticed that I tend to favor warm photos while editing, overkill?(oh and I ordered a grey card, just have'nt gotten it yet)

1 & 4: you want to avoid having legs jutting toward the lens. 4 isn't nearly as bad as 1. You get a foreshortening effect that makes that leg huge.
Your processing and white balance are all over the place.
1-3 you seem to have a focusing issue. Are you using only one focus point and locking it on the eye?
He has got some amazing eyes!
3 is my favorite for composition. It's a bit dark and could use a little bump

The leg issue doesn't matter whether you get a longer lens or not. It's basically best to always try to avoid it. Turn him slightly to one side. He'll naturally look to you making noise and talking to him.

Do you have a feeling what is happening to make your focus come up short? Are you locking on the inside of the eye and then recomposing? You are at a narrow aperture so focus and recomposing may be making it fall short.

Yes I am "locking on the inside of the eye and then recomposing". I will try a smaller aperture next time.

But you chose f/2.8 for a reason right? Usually, with portraits and such you choose the aperture based on what DOF you want...so wouldn't it make more sense to use the aperture you want and not recompose?

this too.... I guess I just need more practice with auto focusing.
