Photoshoot this weekend - TIPS needed!!

I'm doing photos for a 1 year old & a 6 month old baby girls (separate sessions). Both sessions want a few photos with the parents, but the majority of just the kids. The 1 year old we are definitely doing the "destroy cake pictures", but I'm not sure what to lay down for it? Do inside? Outside? I don't have a studio just my house and mother nature. I haven't purchased any backdrops yet... so I'm just starting out. Any other suggestions for cute poses... anything really! I'm open to any & all suggestions!! Thanks!
