Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I just created a logo for myself to use as a watermark on some of my web images. I built the logo in Photoshop CS5 as a 32 bit image.

Now that I have this logo, how can I save or export it as a .jpeg? I believe I have to convert it to an 8 bit image, but how do I do that once it is already built?

.jpeg is not an option in file/save as and I think the reason is that it is built as a 32 bit image, not 8 bit. I think .jpegs can only support 8 bits per pixel?

You are correct on the bit issue. Image-mode-8bit will make that save file type menu much longer with jpeg included.

CS5 will automatically conveert it to 8-bit when you select JPEG in Save-As mode. CS5 will also flatten the image automatically if there are layers.

Personally, I would save the watermark as a .png file, rather than a JPEG.

Did you make the watermark as a vector path? If it is a raster file, it will not scale smoothly.

Bitter, it's not available for me or I wouldn't have started this post to begin with. In 32 bit mode it won't be an option. In 8 bit mode, which I tested, it is an option. The 'save as web' image option also isn't available in 32 bit mode for me.

KmH, I built the logo using vectors but my skills are limited. I needed to erase a part of one of the letters in my logo and the only way I know how to do that is to raster it first. Is there a way to erase a section of a vector letter without having to raster it first?

I can post the logo if you would prefer. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

CS5 is a poor subtitute to using Illustrator for attempting to make vector files, or at least using Inkscape if cost is an issue.

It's more difficult to drive a nail with a screwdriver than with a hammer, KWIM?

So here is what I came up with for my logo. I put it in the bottom right corner and marked each of the file types.

A couple of questions:

- How do I setup an action in Photoshop CS5 so that I can easily put this watermark on web images?
- Can you give me instructions on how to add a white box behind the .gif image that fades away from the logo? I want the logo to show up with a white background, but I want the white background to fade away from the logo (if that makes sense)
- What do you think of the logo itself?

Thanks.

Fade away like gradient?

You can use the gradient fill tool, just select the end color as nothing.

Make sure you click on the upper square (circled in red) and then change the opacity to 0%.

Another way is use the feather tool.
1. Start a new layer
2. Select an area where you want the square to be using the mask tool.
3. Go to Select > Modify > Feather
4. Put in the number of pixels you want to be feathered (try a small number first)
5. Fill the mask with the color of your choice.
6. De-select the mask.... wah lah!

I don't know if there is a tool to specify where you want the logo to be dropped since every picture has different size. So I don't think you can create an action for it.

For the logo, you probably have realized one thing, which is how the logo will look when placed against background of different colors. Do you want it to be obvious? Do you want it to be somewhat stealth? It all depends on how you want the logo to be perceived, which will determine what color and opacity you will use for the logo. As for the design, it looks like a car brand logo, not sure if this is good or bad.
