so i need help with this question: When you interpolate/resample an image down, what are you doing?

If you mean when you're resizing an image, it essentially is attempting to shrink/stretch with minimal distortion. Essentially it is attempting to find the most accurate colors, lines, etc to avoid pixilating the image.
