Had the shutter set at 1/200. Shoot with the 7D, xsync is 250. There a reason for that black towards the bottom?

Just got these monolights two days ago. First attempts with them.

You probably exceeded your x-sync speed. Can you verify your shutter speed?

You had a gobo between the light and the subject.

What is that spike on the lower right edge of the frame?

Are the monolights "X-Sync" compatible? I don't shoot Canon.. so can't help much. Your Exif data does show 1/200 as your shutter speed. Try shooting at 60, 125, etc.. and see if it syncs ok at the lower speeds.

I shoot canon 5DII at 160 otherwise I get the darkening towards the botton too

The spike is actually the cable to the light. I purchased umbrellas not softboxes.

B: shooting with attached flash and lens hood on

C: non compatable lights/speed

Were you in between the lights and baby? Could it be the shadow of the shooter?
