Playing with some cheap flashes

So a while ago I picked up a cheapo $20 optical slave flash from Ritz camera I also just got a flash unit. Its a quantaray QBX-8000xi it doesnt seem to work fully with the Sony cameras but it was free so I wont complain. Anyway here is a shot I took just for fun of one of the dogs. This was also shot with the $25 Sigma lens I picked up on clearance from Ritz

How'd you get the dog to stay still for that shot?

The lighting looks good.

Lots of photoshopping in the lower part of the shot...cloning out something?

Yeah it was just a quicky job. The chair she was sitting on is plaid and I just didnt like how it looked really.
As far as the sitting still issue goes the dogs are somewhat trained lol although she is only about 8 mos old so it was a real trick to get her to sit still.
