I would say, lay off of the blogs, forums, tutorials, and videos, and concentrate on doing your OWN WORK. With your own equipment. Outside influences can be disruptive at times. Too much noise! Too much hype! Too many people shouting in your ears. As your post shows, it's already starting to work.

I've been wanting to do some street photography downtown, after watching a video from Steve McCurry...but I'm thinking it could be a waste of time lol

I keep going through my files looking for some that are good enough. Now that I am home (Sandy caused us to live elsewhere for a few days) and I don't have house guests (Sandy caused a few family members to have to stay once we got electric back), I'll get some posted. Now my issue is all the photos I thought were amazing a few months ago I notice things like tilted horizons, breaking the rule of 3rds BADLY... etc. Simple things that I just can't let go!
