I have decided to take back new camera and new lens.. after this purchase I can afford the upgrade now.. I just cannot afford any new lens..so I will be using my all in one tamron 18-270mm ... I know some of you don't really care for this lens.. but it has served me well through the last two years.. my life style does not give me as much time to change lens .. seems I am always busy.. anyway.. after making rash decision and fast purchase I decided to give in to the upgraded camera while I have the opportunity.. so please share with me any info you think of.....thanks.......:) I am thinking of the D7100 vs the D7000.. I don't need wifi.. thanks again

I own both cameras.
the D7100 has a lot of upgrades that are nice. 24mp sensor with no AA filter, 51pt AF system, EXPEED 3 processor, weather sealed the same as the D300s and D800...
nothing wrong with the D7000 if you choose to go that route, it is also a very capable camera.
I think there are far more people that upgrade because they want to than because they actually need to. (I am in the "want to" group)
I really don't see anything that i can do with the D7100 that I cant do with the D7000.

thanks for this great info..is is an upgrade for me either way.. I just needed to really understand the difference.. and your right need and want have to be in my perspective... I will also stick to need.. as a priority..

I'd probably go ahead and go with the D7100 myself. You've got the 24 mp sensor so better image quality, it doesn't have the AA filter so the pictures will be a little sharper, but really the biggest difference I think at least on paper is the autofocus system. The D7100 has the 51 point autofocus system. You'd also be getting a little bit better low light performance, and of course the biggest plus would be once you get the D7100 you won't be staying awake nights wondering if you should have bought it as opposed to the D7000. :)

If you CAN get the D7100, then I would get it. (If its not going to break the bank)
There are plenty of affordable prime lenses that will make good use of the 24mp sensor.

That's why I haven't upgraded from the D7000. Haven't hit the limit with it like I did my D90.... Haven't hit the limit yet anyway.

I understand this well.. I just wanted a newer camera then my 5000 so going to a 5200 was not much of an upgrade.. so in this case I should have just stayed with the 5000.. but now that I am considering an upgrade.. I may as well truly upgrade.

question for you.. you may not like the quality of the tamron 18-270mm but for me it really was the way to go... will it be adequate with the D7100.. at least enough that it does not take away from the quality.. or should I pursue.. another type of lens in the near future.. ;) thanks

This^

The D7100 is also Nikon's current most advanced DX camera and should be good technology wise for the next 3-4 years. This means you shouldn't need to upgrade your camera body for a while and can focus on glass.

7100 - 7000 = 100. 100/7000=.014x 100 = 1.42.

Therefore the 7100 is 1.4% better than the d7000.
