Plugins for the Gimp?

My first post here and probably a newbie question. Where do I find and how do I install the myriad of plugins that I have heard about for Gimp? I just downloaded the basic program and haven't run across the other stuff.

having the same problem just downloaded the latest version and need plugins for 2.6.5. version any advice on where to get them/how to install them would be helpful
