Portraits of a Friend

A quick selection of three portraits I took of my friend. What do you think of the shots, and whats your opinion on portraits that are taken in horizontal/landscape form, so to speak? Awaiting your replys!

[Kerbouchard]

1. The background is a bit too busy for me.
2. The subject is merging into the background and his shirt is overexposed which draws my eyes away from the subject.
3. Fix the distortion(flag poles leaning right, his bench leaning left), crop a bit tighter, and it might work, but with the subject looking away and down, not so great for any kind of connection to be drawn with a viewer.

I find #2 the most interesting, but I just can't get past some of the processing, but it is an intiguing idea.

Nice bokeh in #1. The contrast is a bit hard for my tastes in 1 and 2 though. 3 just doesn't really do anything for me, unfortunately.

A subject wearing dark sunglasses always is a distancing thing for me and makes it less of a success
