I was bored yesterday while the kids were doing their homework so I pulled out my camera and tried to bounce my flash inside.
I have an sb600 and I was using it pointed almost straight up, but the one click forward, 75? degrees.
I also had to up the compensation to +1.

Do they look flashy? Excuse the faces, my kids are silly.

Well, the photos are sufferering from upload compression. Any reason why you went with a +1? I usually bounce my sb600 45 degrees in front or behind me, with no +/- anything.

I felt they were too dark until I pushed it up to +1.

if the flash is your "main" source of light, it wont be flashy if you bounce it.

Use a bounce card and adjust the power output manually.

Is the ceiling white (255,255,255)? If not, the light picks up a color cast.
Because all the light is coming from above, eye sockets are dark (racoon eyes) which is what the bounce card solves. While the light is soft because it's an apparently larger light source, you have little control over where the light goes and it may be to places you may not want it to go.

Unfortuately the SB-600 doesn't have a built in bounce card like the SB-800 and SB-900 do.

Don't forget what ever angle your flash hits the ceiling at at will bounce off at the same angle, so if you get too close some of the flash will bounce behind or too far away it will bounce in front, zooming the flash also effects bounce flash, just something to think about before you shoot
