Practicing Shooting With My Sisters

I went to visit my sisters and figured they would be perfect guinea pigs for me to work on my people shooting skills. I usually just do landscapes and outside stuff but I would really like to branch out into People photography! C&C very welcome Still pretty new with all this so let me know what I can do to make them better and feel free to edit them in any way!

I'd prefer to see some where they are actually looking at the camera, and thus looking at (connecting with) the viewer.

Having your subjects look off-camera, is helpful when you want to de-emphasize the model, usually to put more emphasis on the clothing or product. But if the shot is supposed to be about the model, then having them connect with the viewer is usually a better option.

1,2,3 have a kind of "urban clothing catalog" look to them. Love their clothes and colored hair! Very "20-tens" looking shots. They have that sort of detached, youthful, ticked-off teenage girl look to them. Good color, reasonably good technical values (sharp, clean, focused,decent if unspectacular lighting).

Shots 4 and 5 though--"ehhhhh". No. Those fall flat,flat,flat. Just simply not good.

Thanks Mike! I do have some where they are looking at the camera. I hadn't even realized they were looking away in all of the photos I chose until you pointed it out! I will definitely keep that in mind for my next posts and any other shoots I might do

First three are the best, third being the best of all. There is a nice color-contrast between your sister and the background, she pops out of the frame.

Crops are a little tight, but nothing got chopped off!

Thank you Derrel! Lol my sister does love her colored hair and I think it really pops in the pictures! Now that you have pointed it out the longer I look at number 5 I feel like it needs something, maybe brightening her up?, to make her pop out more??

Jowens, Thanks! The third one is also my favorite one! I actually had a hard time deciding with the crops which ones I liked better. Here is the 3rd picture without its crop!
