Pre-Processing thoughts??

Question for all of you... I am fairly new to photography (~1 year now) and was just curious to how you approach pictures... Beyond deciding apperature/shutter/ISO what else do you control? I understand that its really all about light control but I do mostly landscapes and candids and I just usually work with what light is given at that time....

Choice of camera body
Choice of lens
Choice of filter
Choice of POV
Choice of additional/modified lighting
Time of day and weather (if possible)
A ton of settings (either in camera or in post): Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness, B&W conversion, Vividness.........
HDR
Cropping (yes, even cropping in post can be decided before the shutter is pushed)
