Price package comparision for Canon T4i and Nikon D5100

Hello guys,
I have some interest in DLSR camera lately and I'm planning to either purchase either t4i or d5100.
After a lot of researches, there are current two packages that i have been looking at for past few days.
It is hard for me to tell which one is the best for starter like me especially when the difference between the
price is not that much. I also notice that low end lens such as 50mm f/1.8 and 55-300 (Nikon), 55-250mm (Canon)
have pretty much similar in price except Canon has an little edge over this.
Therefore, please give me some opinion by looking at the price and general specs of these DSLRs.

First:
Nikon D5100 16.2 Megapixel Digital Camera W/ Nikon 18-55mm VR Lens at 540 price @ $547 dollars (Brand new condition)
Note: I know at B&H, they have a better bundle package for the same price but i want to focus on the comparison between the original packages.
Second:
Canon EOS Rebel Digital T4i 18.0 MP Camera W/ 18-55mm IS II Lens at 680 price @ 680 dollars (Brand new condition)
Note: This price is a lot cheaper compare to the price at any other places.

A better comparison would be the T4i to the D5200. Or the T3i to the D5100.
The T4i has higher ISO ability, better focusing system with 9 cross type focus points, faster frames per second and a built in focus motor.
The 5100 his rated higher on image quality and dynamic range and a better price point.

Canon T4i Body Only @ $799

Nikon D5100 Body Only @ $446

Needless to say I bought my parents a D5100.

Why get the kit at all?

42nd street photo has been around for a very long time. They're legitimate, but a touch to the shady side of things. Check their reviews

According to those reviews (and my experience with them was much the same) they are more than a "touch" shady. They are full blown shades. Buy from them if you hate yourself and want to be ripped off.
