Love it! I know some are going to say do portrait orientation, but it works for this, and she is just adorable!

Can't seem to find a portrait crop with this one I like. Anyone want to take a stab at it??:)

Very cute photo, I prefer the portrait oriented one. Her eyes look slightly over processed, mostly the whites.

Thanks for looking, I was wondering if the eyes were over done.

Hmmm...$Julianne1stdayof school2-CROPPED.jpg

Here is a crop of the shot that I made. I think it's acceptable. It shows that she is seated, and gives us more of an idea of how little she is. First day of school! How awesome is that!?!?!

I really like the crop Derrel! I was trying to crop while still thinking about RO3's but an exception to the rule?

The RO3 is just a guideline...and, by my way of looking at it, one of her eyes falls right on a rule of thirds intersection...and both eyes are on the top "RO3" line... but beside that, there are other things at work in this shot as well. For example, she is seated...We can actually now SEE that, and I mean in the shot we can literally see that she is sitting on a step or stoop or landing...she has her little hands at the bottom of the frame, and her legs and arms kind of lead the eye upward and to her face. Her face is brighter than the dark doorway and the brickwork, so her face "advances", since "light advances and dark recedes," as the old saying goes. her legs, and hands, and arms are creating what is called a "base" for the portrait; in the very first shot, she was a "floating head", with no torso...not to sound mean, but...that's what landscape orientation DOES on a close-in shot many times...it deprives the person of a "base"...the head is just "there"...

I tried to crop this roughly the way it would look if shot with a 3:2 aspect ratio camera...not measured precisely, but just my quick "guess" as a normal 3:2 frame aspect ratio. it might be a few millimeters too tall, or too narrow, but I was just trying to make a crop that simulated the way *I* would approach framing this shot with a normal d-slr that captures 3:2.
