Purchasing originals from eBay

I see that there are loads of slides available on auction on eBay. My question is copyright. Who "owns" these slides? Does copyright belong to the owner of the slide?

I believe it depends on which countries laws are applicable. I know in Australia, if I do a shoot for a client, then when he pays the bill, the copyright is owned by him/her. If I shoot a spec shot and sell the image for a particular use to a client, in this case I still own the copyright, but the client has use of the image for the particular job, unless you sign away your copyright privileges.

I believe in most cases in the US, you would only be buying the slide, not any rights, so legally you probably wouldn't be able to dupe it or make any prints from it.
