I really like when a star effect has applied to a photograph.

I am wondering if a star filter which costs about £20 is worth it for my kit lens or should I just add it photoshop (I am not much a photoshop user and I like photographs being natural rather than post-processed.)

Star Filters

Well, adding a filter to the lens is pre-processing and is no more natural than adding a star effect post process.

However, using a small lens aperture produces 'diffraction spikes' so I recommend you learn more about photography.

Waste of money you will use it about 5 times, get an ND grad filter many more uses for it

No. Stop down your lens instead, if you want the spikes.

Stopping down the lens is not really an alternative to using a star filter IMO. If you want to buy the filter, then go ahead. If you don't like it, then return it or sell it.
