Question about D800 w/ 70-200 VRI

It sounds like you have some extra money that's giving you a rash.

Buy an 85mm f1.8 for around $500 and spend the rest on getting yourself somewhere to shoot.

And prints!

If you can't shoot more than satisfactory pictures with a Nikon 800, Nikon 28-70mm 2.8, and a Nikon 70-200 2.8 VRI, than I don't know what to suggest. You're talking roughly $6,000.00 worth of gear. I'm no pro but I can't help but think throwing more money upgrading to a 24-70 & 70-200 2.8 VRII will only buy you marginal gains.

But that's exactly it, I never planned to upgrade the lenses. They're all I can afford. So the question was about whether they would maximize the D800's resolution. Unless I find gold in the back yard, I'm sticking with my VRI and the 28-70 (or maybe the Tamron 24-70 VC, I've heard good things about it). On a side note, I think you're right, anyone upgrading to the newer versions of the lenses will only get marginal gains in IQ.

That's probably not a half bad idea!
