Question About Nikon Flash

I have an SB-600 Flash but I can't get it to work off the camera. Do I need an SU-800 wireless remote?

I'm not sure, but I downloaded the manual and went straight to the index for "C". I don't see commander mode, so my best guess is that you can't run off camera flash right out of the box.

The SU-800 may be overkill. Check out Cactus, Infinity, Radio Poppers & Pocket Wizards for triggers.

I am not sure abut the D5000 but on my wifes D80 and my D300 you go in to the menu and set the internal flash to comander mode and the chanel you want then check your flash manual for the setting for it (I cant find mine right now)

D5000 doesn't have this built in, you'll need the SU-800 or other after market options.
