It's a 9.1 megapixel camera. Under image size, should I always leave it on 9m or should I use 3:2 which is 8m. I would think I should leave it on 9m but wanted to see what you all thought. Also, when I use aperture priority mode to blur the background, I have a hard time getting it to work. My camera will only go to f8. Sorry for the noob question but I'm trying to fully understand my camera so I can get the best picture possible.

Thanks!

Unless you want 3:2, use 9MP. As for aperture, f8 won't give you a very blurred background. On dSLRs, people generally use f2.8 or f4. I don't think you can do anything about it since the min on your camera is f8.

ok cool. the max on my camera is f8 and the min is f2.7.

If you want the largest aperture on your camera, you should have it at f/2.7. f/8 will give you relatively in focus backgrounds. You should read up on the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO and how they interact with each other.
