I may be buying a Nikon D7000, but the warranty prices seem pretty steep ($300-$500).

I have never bought an extended warranty on any of the other cameras I have purchased, and have never had problems,
so I was just wondering how the QC is on the Nikon D7000. Do a lot of them have problems or go bad? I believe the standard
warranty that comes with the camera is 1 year, but if anyone knows different, please let me know.

The D7000 hasn't really been around long enough to know if an 'extended' warranty would be worthwhile. Personally, I never buy the extended warranties for anything.

As far as the D7000 specifically, it seems that the QC is been pretty hit or miss, but most issues have been showing up right away or certainly within the first few months...hot pixels, oil on sensors, misaligned focus, etc.

The D7000's QC is pretty typical for a piece of consumer electronics. If you're going to have a problem it's most likely to occur during the 1st year of use.

Stores love selling extended warranties, because they are almost 100% profit.

I bought an extended warranty on a Plasma TV about 6 years ago just because they were so damn expensive at that time. 2-3 years later and I could buy a whole 'nother TV that was even better for what the warranty alone cost. Never again will I buy an extended warranty. I didnt buy the warranty for my D7k and havn't needed it either.

I paid $150 for a 3 year extended warrant at Adorama, for my D7000. If I never use it, i'm still happy to have purchased it. But I've used every warranty that I've purchased. Especially headphones. Some things don't need a warranty. By the build of the d7k, it may be one of those things. But can never be to safe.

D7000, iPhone 3GS
