Really wished I would have caught the fight....I had no idea an ant was capable of killing a spider...but of course the ant was HUGE!

Not too shabby for a reversed setup. I know how hard those can be to hold and expose. Pretty sure the last photo is the ant eating a cricket. The legs don't seem to be attached in the right spot for it to be a spider.

You should try throwing a speedlight into the mix. You'll get better exposure/lighting and it will be sharper due to the flash freezing the frame and eliminating the motion blur from you handholding.

I will do the speedlight once I afford one, good idea though. I can assure you that is the spider from #2 in shot #3...I don't know what that ant did, but it busted that spider up real good...

I see now...we're looking at the back of the spider and I thought we were looking at the front. I agree about the craziness. Wolf Spider's are awesome predators so I wouldn't be surprised if something else killed the spider and the ant is just eating the remains...otherwise that is one viscous ant.

NateS your back! Having seen any of your amazing macro shots in awhile.

Agentdrex, I can't see any of your photos so i can't comment, sorry.

I just love the first shot! I can't stop looking at it! Even though the focus is a tad soft, I love it! Awesome work on that spider too!

Thanks Dagwood...I had quite a few shots of that ant on the flower but this is the one with the most focus on the ant and still is not what I consider good. But I'll keep practicing.

Jake (fellow Minnesnowtan...), when you are viewing my threads, where are you doing it at? I'm posting them mostly from flickr and I notice you have a flickr account linked in your sig, so I'm not sure why you wouldn't be able to view them. Very odd.

Mr. Evers...thanks for the link. It seems though I'm always going in the hole in the bank. Every payday for the last two months, I've been in the hole bank-wise...really got to get a handle on my expenditures...but I'm young and dumb...perhaps someday I'll learn...or maybe I should grow my own and not buy anymore weed so I could actually afford equipment...but I'm an idiot so who knows how long that will be.

Nate...unless something was underneath the walkway (either another predator or a dead spider with eggs), I'm relatively sure that the ant was the culprit. "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" I'm glad is just a movie...
