Been putting out oranges for the Baltimore Orioles in summer for some years. Last couple of years the Red Bellied Woodpeckers have takin a likin' to them. I have to keep them out all year 'round now.

A good catch for both of you ... 🤣
It was very rewarding last summer when the adults would load their beaks and take off back to the nest. Then, one day, the proud papa showed up with his new daughter. He showed her the oranges, the suet, the sunflower seed feeders, and all his favorite perches. It was an amazing afternoon for me! And, I have photos of it all.

That's so awesome. I love these woodpeckers! You'll probably get ongoing generations now. :586:

I tried putting out oranges for my visiting orioles, and they shriveled from neglect. They will sample the nectar, but they're really all about the grape jelly.

Yes, I put out grape jelly and orange marmalade too. :)
