Purplish Jay (Cyanocorax cyanomelas) , Refugio Volcanes, Amboro National Park, Bolivia

Black Phoebe (Sayornis nigricans) , Refugio Volcanes, Amboro National Park, Bolivia. This has a large distribution from Oregon in the US to Bolivia but it is a bit restricted and I have never seen it in Colombia and I didn't see it anywhere in Bolivia.

One and two could do with bringing up the shadows ...
Thanks for that - normally I overexpose rather than under - I have all devices on really bright.
How would you have done them?

Birds with dark heads and dark eyes are notoriously difficult to get shots where the eyes are nicely illuminated. The light needs to be just right. I believe these shots are as good as they are going to get.

There needs to be a little bit of a Zen approach to nature photography. The animals care not what we want and simply do what they do. Sometimes we get lucky. But I have also heard luck described as being prepared when opportunity knocks.

Thank you - the light was not very good either.

Nice catches!
