I doubt they did it just for the shot. That gear is probably cap-less 24/7. I personally don't get it, but from everything I've seen (not just this) photojournalists don't use caps, at all. Bodies, lenses - they all go in the bag 'naked'.

That shot is obviously on a hotel bed - they most likely just pulled everything out of the bag/case and threw it on the bed, as is.

I beg to differ. I have a few friends that are photojournalists and they take suburb care of their equipment. I can not remember the last time I had a cap on my bodies. Probably the last time was when I took them out of the box. My bodies always have lenses on them. You view it as they just took everything out of their bag and through it on the bed to snap a shot. I view it as if they have that much equipment that they are responsible for and their job is to take pictures for international publication than they know how to take care of the equipment. I am going with they took the bodies off of the lens so they could take that pic pretty quick.
