I usually shoot around 250 shots at a given event that lasts around 2-4 hours.

I have three 1 gig CF cards. On a 6.3mp camera I can get around 150 shots per card. If you shoot 250 shots you'd have to swap once. I've dropped one of my CF cards into a river, where it sat underwater for 45 minutes, and I got 1gig of images off of it the next day. It still works fine.

It's up to you. If you are careful with your media, (everyone is but accidents happen), then you'll probably be fine with a microdrive.

Yeah the huge storage of the microdrives is reeeeeally attractive, but esp. after reading some horror stories on this thread, and also on FM, I think I'll stick with CF. Thanks guys

I would always just be afraid of damaging the mini platters! I mean one little drop and all your images could go out the window. They say they're pretty sturdy and bounce resistant but I still would put money on solid state over moving parts any day of the week!

Another thing to consider is compatiblity. Make sure the camera can handle the card size. I know the 10D won't use the new huge cards. I also prefer to use a couple of smaller cards than one huge one. That way, if one card does get trashed or accidentally erased, at least the whole shoot doesn't go away. But then you do have more cards to keep track of. Another balancing act.
