Each photo has its own distinct "feel". I like the way you have composed each one. If I had any criticism, it might be that both have a lot of very similar gray tonal values, and tend a bit toward the mushy side.

Number 2 is the better in my opinion. I really love them both but the 2nd is definitely my favorite.

Love them. Would have loved to have seen a bit more contrast in the editing though

I like them both, but I think my choice would be the first one. There is more tonal contrast in it and the rocks on the left provide a balance for the "road" on the right. Would have liked to see a bit more detail in the sky, assuming it was there. If you shot raw, then there may be some that can be developed.

Derrel, how can I get this image to look cleaner? I edited these in Silver Efex 2 but am not pleased with the overall grey tone you speak of. Would I play with the global adjustments or do selective editing?

I personally like the second one.
The first one has some "unnecessary" objects (many rocks on the side) in my opinion, which make my first focus not entirely on the bridge, while the second is very clean, definitely an example of doing 'minus' in picture composition. Probably leave a little more space on the left, so you kind of have something to extend, it would be better.

Hi, I prefer the second one becouse of the sense of loneliness that transmits. The first one is more contextualized and more "realistic" with the city on the left and the boat on the right

Yes, I did. I actually had to drive here about eight times to photograph it without any people or fishermen on it. It wasn't until I left home at 5 a.m. to achieve that. What's worse is this is about two hours away from where I live. I'll go there again sometime soon to shoot a sunset hopefully with a more dramatic sky.
