Roebling Bridge

Hi guys. Here's another from the Roebling bridge in Cincinnati.

This is Fuji Neopan 400. I did some dodging and burning and upped the contrast a bit.

Why didn't you straighten it?

very good point. I looked at it on my monitor and it looked straight. I uploaded it to TPF and it looked crooked.

I will fix it and repost.

Yes, it is better, but not yet straight. How are you straightening? Is it on the computer or straighten on the scanner?

I realize many shots will have some distortion, but if you pick the central-most vertical, and get that plumb, all the rest will look good.

(edit) For this bridge shot, I would work with the sharp edge between light and shadow on the left pier. If your software will give you a grid, get that line parallel with the nearest grid line, and it should be fairly good.

The sign on the bridge draws my eye. That seems plumb on the horizontal (in shot 2).
You will not get all lines straight in a shot like this.

I think that to say something is crooked (not counting the first post ) is not as helpful as maybe adding a comment regarding which horizontal or vertical is drawing your eye to make you feel that way.

Well I'm glad the sign draws your eye. I dodged it lighter in hopes that it would be the focus.

This seems to have two images in it that don't work that well together, at least for me. One is the tower and steelwork of the bridge and the other is the old stone wall with a shadow on it. It looks like it was taken from a rather difficult spot, so you may not be able to go over to the left side of the road, but this would show more of the tower and also the wall, and then you could see whether they work together or just take two shots.

Roebling also built the Brooklyn Bridge at about the same time. You can see the similarities in construction. I think there are several other bridges out there that he built, or at least there were.

Good critique. I believe I could of walked over to the left side. I would prob. be in the road but I think I could make it happen.

I'm with Ken on this one, is there any way of getting a shot from the side on an angle to show the tower with the big wires coming down to lead your eye into the shot ?
