Rugby. KRFC vs South Leicester

Some shots from a recent rugby match between Kettering rugby club and South Leicester. These are the first sport shots i've ever taken so any opinions would be very appreciated. I used Canon's 85 1.8 for all of them.

I've also got a question that's not related to the photos. Do you think that switching from a Tamron 17-50 to Canon 10-22 is a good choice? The main use would be photojournalism.

Hi Robert, not bad for your first attempt but 85mm just isn't long enough, i use a 300F2.8L and that sometime is not long enough. For rugby shots you need to crop tight, hope you don't mind but i had a bit of a play with one of you shots

I usually crop in camera as much as possible like this

gsgary: Yeah I know that 85 isn't long enough but it's the longest lens I've got at the moment:meh: I had to crop most of the shots to get "closer" anyway. I am planning to buy a proper telephoto in the future. Do you think C 70-200 2.8 would be good for general sports photography or would I need a longer lens?

The 70-200 is a top lens for sport not long enough for some sports but you can work round it but it will come in handy for your other stuff also
