Rum and Coca Cola, Please

Took a tour of Clifton's in downtown L.A. the other day. The original was opened in the early '30s, and the policy was "Pay what you can, if you can. No one should have to be hungry." Ray Bradbury took advantage of that policy when he was a struggling author. I'll post a few more from this wonderful place soon. This was shot in one of its five bars.

Walt Disney's daughter said that Walt got a lot of ideas for Disneyland from his friend's cafeteria. There are replica redwoods that go up five stories through all the floors. There is a fairly large meteorite on the bar where the Sci-Fi writers hung out. There is a real Chris Craft motorboat decorating one of the bars with a topical flavor. Someone once described the place as the natural child of the Rainforest Cafe and the Museum of Natural History. I'm attaching three more shots from my tour of the place. Clifton's in downtown They recently discoverd a neon lamp behind the wall in one of the Ladie's rooms which had been wired to the mains and been on for 70 years! They are open only for tours during the day now, while they undergo yet another renovation. Three nights a week the bars are rockin'. Check their web site for hours, etc.
