Running Horses - watercolor filter?

Yesterday, I took pictures while the neighbors were moving part of a herd of horses. I have just started reading Understanding Exposure (trying to get my shots down). I had the aperture stopped down to get a good depth of field but stopped down too much as my shutter speed ended up being too slow to freeze the action. The originals are kinda blah. I decided to experiment and took one of the least blurred pictures and used the watercolor filter on it. What do you think?
