Rural Decay

I was never a fan of HDR, but it looks nice, almost like a video game or something. though the tall grass in the first one looks to fuzzy to me

I don't mean any offense, but I think these are way overcooked. The last one would be decent if it wasn't for the sky looking the way it does.

No offense in being honest. I prefer you tell me the truth and how I can improve on it than just tell me its the best thing you have ever seen. What could I do or should I have done to fix it?

The images are okay, theres some slight Halo's,but there good images.

Im not getting why you used Hdr(maybe other then you wanted too)
It doesent really put Emphasis on Decay, neither does the Composition of the shots.

But there is some potential :) i havent ment to offend either :)

I used the HDR because of the lighting situation. I don't have anything other than the built in flash in my s90 and the images were almost all back lit so I decided to go with the HDR. To be honest, I think the composition on them leaves something to be desired too and I should have been able to take the time and set them up better but I didn't for whatever reason.

Ease up on the Tone Mapping adjustments. Maybe do some more moderate adjustments outside of the HDR software after you merge the file. Like basic contrast, saturations/vibrance/ dodging/burning. All of these things can add to the image, without all of the halos. Just use the HDR to get a wider range of tones and not to push the craziness of the image and then do more tweaking just as you would a normal photograph. Thats my opinion though, as you can see by your responses, some people love the super surreal extreme HDR effects.

Okay, I need practice with making some realistic HDR anyways. I will play some more with these once I get some time over the semester break.

Does anyone know where I could find out how to create HDR from photoshop CS2 instead of using photomatix?

Not really, but,if you can somehow get a hold of a copy of Cs5 Master suit, you'll be a happy lad :)

You don't need master suite, regular CS5 will do HDR quite well as well. The only plus with photomatix in my opinion, is that it sometimes merges and loads faster than Photoshop HDR will. You can also start in photomatix for the HDR, and finish in CS2.

okay so I played some in the CS5 master suit and it came out much more realistic than photomatix for me. I am gonna keep playing though but tell me what you think. Better, worse, same? What can I do to improve?

did you try the exposure fusion options with Photomatix? It will give you that realisitic feeling.

Call me crazy but I like the overcooked ones. I notice some halo'ing in number two and I think number 3 is great. Nice angle to me. :)
