Restaurants like this are the best way to actually meet the locals, culture and language barriers aside. I carry a phrase book and try phrases. I also carry a collage of my grandchildren and, if there is a child around (which there is 90% of the time) I show the collage to the parent. This collage is inevitably of great interest.
