"The Fan" is a historical neighborhood in Richmond, Virginia. Lovely old row houses. Richmond is a beautiful city. Disclaimer, I'm not a street photographer.

Great set. You'd enjoy Toronto's old 'hoods!

G'day Jeff

What a delightful area of town that is - and thanks for sharing with us
I am amazed to see that the bricks were all shipped across from EU to put it all together ... what a job to load / unload / carry / transport / and all that stuff. Whew!

🤣...

Lol, a bunny🥳🥳🥳... brilliant Mr😂.

I like this, rich basteds hey😱.
The houses in The Fan run from USD $350,000.00 to $1,500,000.00. I think the chateau is a museum now. The courtyard in the photo above has multiple homes sharing it. I like to browse Zillow to look at what homes cost, and see the interiors of some of the houses.

"Heritage" homes aren't for everyone. Banks are iffy about mortgages; insurance can get pricey and complicated; buyers usually aren't lined up. "Designated" houses are usually protected from demolition or disfiguring modification. Depending on the extent of "heritage" attributes under protection, repairs and material upgrades often require approval from local govs. We got a reprieve from efforts to designate the "family ruin" thanks to 2yrs of our research that proved the city got nearly all of the property's history wrong. LOVE these old piles. But you have to live with
the creaks and rarity of perfect 90 degree angles where you'd expect them!

My brother owns a house that was built in the 1830's in the Forest Park neighborhood of Richmond. It's amazing that it went unscathed during the Civil War. He finally decided to pull down the plaster walls inside, because they were cracking and peeling, and he has done an amazing job with putting up dry wall. I love the meme, "So relieved that the strange noises in the house are just ghosts, and not something expensive that needs to be repaired."

The "ruin" had that done in the early 70s to replace old plaster+lathe walls and redo plank floors. Issues now are plumbing updates and kitchen/bathroom renos. Then there's a porch/balcony rebuild...Should've been born rich instead of good-looking!

The floors look good, but he'll have a pro come out to give them a light sanding. He plans on restoring a balcony that was on the second floor over the front door. The roof is a 100 YO metal roof that he has treated every decade or so to keep it from leaking.

Great set! Looks like this is a fun area to walk around with a camera. Beautiful architecture and grounds.

I think I love the weather vanes the most. This kind of whimsy is what gives an area a certain vibe.

Thank you! Yes, it is a gorgeous area. I wouldn't mind living there. I wasn't sure the weather vanes would turn out, because from where I was, they were just black silhouettes against the sky, but the Sony RX10M4 did a great job in spite of the challenges. The net time I go to visit my brother and he asks what I want to do, I'm telling him, "Lets go walk The Fan..." :)

Richmond would be a lovely place to retire! Nice that you have some family there, too. Some of those old neighborhoods must be like eye candy!
