Agree that its a little soft around the eyes,still a nice shot.Have you checked for back or front focus for each lens.It is possible your Nikon may not be focusing as it should.Have you checked where your focus point was.I have this feature in my 6D turned on so in the field If zoom 100 percent then it shows exactly where my single point was in a red. Then I know If I missed or the camera just missed.

I guess the lens has back focus. Corrected it in camera but still didn't test it.
All my other lens are fine. Considering to send it back and ask for a new one.

Didn't know you have the Common Moorhen over there. Learned something. The water around the bird looks beautifully metallic.

If you have Photoshop the new Shake Reduction filter would sharpen that right up for you
