same lake, different years and different light

Just an interesting example of how different a landscape might look depending on light, weather and time of the year.

Both taken roughly from the same position, I could not get as far into the water for the first shot, as the waves were a bit more rough

HUGE difference! Nice comparison, the difference may also be due to your photography skill increasing!? But then, its hard to compare skill when the first shot was heavily limited in how nice you could make it!

Errm, no, my learning curve is pretty flat, and it has been so over the last 20 to 30 years Actually, the first image was taken some years after the second one, also the first one was taken with a better camera

But in the first image it was windy, grey, the sky was cloudy but not dramatic. In the second image it was great light, and autumn leaves in September.

Good example. Also a good point for landscape photographers. Getting 'the shot' of a particular location may mean going back many, many times until Mother Nature cooperates with you. Much of it is about being in the right place at the right time.

Of course, most of us don't have the luxury of being able to visit our favorite scenes so easily, so we must learn to make the most out of the conditions that are present when were are there.
I recall making a post with some photos from a time when I spent a week in the Rocky Mountains with cloudy weather.

Same basic scene, with two completely oposite sides of Mother Nature. Pic #1 shows her strengths and looming power of an approaching storm. Pic 2 shows us her good side with a peaceful, sunny, and serene day. Both pictures struck me by the clarity of the lake. and both pictures are outstanding landscapes using what mother nature gave you on those days.

could be a nice project. documenting a particular landscape scene with the same lens and focal length and perspective over the years through varying seasons and weather ...

Good post. Very nice to see the two photos of the same point of view under differing conditions. It looks like perhaps late winter/early spring in the top photo, and autumn in the bottom photo.

Actually, the first one was end of June, which this far north basically means early spring ... and the second one was taken in early September, which is hight autumn, so you were right
