Scanning film to digital

I guess Ive resigned myself to scanning my own 35mm slides/negs. I have NO med format.
Does anyone know the difference between a Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED and a 9000 ED film scanners other than a $1000?

The Coolscan 9000 is a multi-format film scanner. The 5000 is 35mm only. There are other differences, but I'll let you read through those.
