Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I took this one on Tuesday, hoping to get a soft skyline and sharp scuplture, and with that worked pretty well. The sculpture is really poorly lit, so it was a bit of a challenge for my inexperience, but overall I'm really happy with this image......... except the light pollution from the WellsFargo building (the one that looks white hot). They've ruined my checking account, now they insist on ruining my photos.

A question for those in the know, is that just from a long exposure, or is it the dreaded "amp glow" I keep reading about?

Any comments and suggestions are welcomed.

Shots like this are difficult to get in one shot without lots of lighting equipment. You could do several exposures then combine them using HDR software. That way you could combined the preoperly exposed parts of the imge into one singel image (google HDR photography).

The top of the Wells Fargo building is very bright, hard to do without multiple combined exposures.

haha i love that sculpture! unfortunately, the eye wants to look at the background instead of it. it's framed gorgeously, just a shame there isnt a light to drag my attention onto the main subject more.

Iconic sculpture, really makes me miss the T.C.! Really liking the reflection!

Thanks for the advice! I did stumble across some information about HRD, and downloaded some freeware to combine exposures. This one was actually seven exposures combined with picturenaut (the only absolutely free HDR software I've been able to use with no research or knowledge of HDR post production) and minimally tweaked. I'm certain that someone that knows what they are doing could do much better with the exposures. I'm going to be taking some classes on photoshop and HDR creation in the near future and will rebuild it when I have a little better idea of what I'm doing. :D

I do have another image I took, but what I thought was framed well cut off the top of the stem. It was a little disappointing shen I got it home. The lighting was better on this one, but the dome of the Basilica is pretty bright. Minneapolis sure doesn't skimp on the electric bill..........

here it is.

I need a wider lens.........

Sorry, doubletap.

Now the building in the background is overexposed, stealing the spotlight...

Yeah, someday I will learn how to be selective enough, and have enough know-how to build a decent HDR......

Someday.

Until then I am going to have to learn to live with buildings that look like torches.

I've heard there is a way to remove certain objects from certain exposures to help avoid things like the over-exposed Basilica dome in the background here...... but I don't yet know how to accomplish it. When I figure it out, I will resurrect this post and put them up.

If anyone has any advice as to reading material that would help me in this quest...... I'm all ears!

Again, thanks for the comments. Every day I'm learning something new about this hobby, and these comments help tremendously.
