selecting af points

For shooting moving objects such as a car is it best to have just the center af point selected or all 7 of them?I do alot of panning shots and was thinking maybe the autofocus would "pick up" the subject better by using only 1 af point.Is this correct?The camera is a Digital Rebel XT.

I am a huge fan of the one point focusing. In the case of a pan I would go with the multi point. Seems a lot safer.

After I made the post I was thinking that the more af points used when panning would probably be better due to the fact you have more points to cover the moving subject.Keep in mind I am still very new to manual settings on a camera and I have tons of questions Thanks for the reply.
