What did I do right/wrong?

Edit: My fat face doesn't have much of a jawline to begin with, so that isn't really being lost here.

Head turned quite a bit, maybe too much. Arms on the chair back are catching most of the light. You've got a good light split, but I'm not sure it should be the other way around; i.e.; short side the fill light. (nit) the tee shirt graphic shows.

I agree with pretty much everything Designer said. I especially think that your head is turned too far and should be directed back to the camera a little. You can easily clone the shirt graphic in PS and try to burn the arms some.

I like the way you achieved focus on the left eye, besides that I am trying to like things about this photo. The pose? The comp? The lighting? What am I supposed to critique I ask myself.

This is my second time actually sitting down trying to critique a photo. Your family pic was the first. I have posted for critique as well and it is unpleasant business.

I feel you needed a separation light being as your hair is similar color as the BG.

I think your forehead and arm are overexposed.

I see a an awkward pose. Was the shutter on a timer?

Your crop is a little wide for my liking. I don't think my crop helps but, if you cut off an arm might as well cut them both?

Perhaps your chair could be further from the curtain to provide some separation, you could burn down the forehead and arm in Post and have someone direct your pose.

Thanks, folks. Meaningful critiques make all the difference. I have discerned that trying to pose myself without a mirror is probably an exercise in futility. So I volunteered the kid again.

The shutter was on a timer. I don't have a radio remote yet (they're hard to come by too), but that's on my list of things to pick up.
