So I took this self-portrait to be used in a black & white mailing that our company is sending out. It's going to be printed pretty small at the bottom of the document - probably not larger than an inch to an inch-and-a-half tall.

I think it turned out okay for the most part, but unfortunately the camera's auto-focus thought my beard was the best place to focus, so my eyes are soft. It will probably not be noticeable printed that small, but what do you guys think? Reshoot?

Any other C&C is welcome as well. This was shot outside in the shade, on an overcast day, with a 3-stop ND filter on the lens, a reflective umbrella camera right, and a white wall camera left. F/2 1/250 ISO 100. I may try reshooting tomorrow if it's still overcast, and with a darker shirt.

I wouldnt reshoot it, since its going to be printed so small it doesnt really matter.

Maybe increase your f-stop to have more in focus(just in case) -looks like you could've went a lot smaller judging by your shutter speed. F2 is tough to pull on a self portrait. Also looks like your squinting is quite obvious even on the smaller crop.

Yeah, I'm squinting a little, but I always do when I smile. :meh:

I could probably get away with a smaller aperture, I'll try that if I reshoot. That's a levee covered with weeds behind me, so I don't want that to end up too much in focus. :)

Also though, if I reshoot, I'm going to drag someone else out with me, use single-point focus instead of dynamic area, turn on live view and just have them tell me when my eye is under the box. (and I could try to squint less)

Ahhh..looked as if something was too bright.

It's nothing major..but squinting less yes

Well the sun came out and all the clouds went away, so no reshoot today (unless I tried it closer to sunset I guess). The focus issue really is unnoticeable at the smaller size, but I think Camz is right about the squinting. Maybe I should just try to be less happy.

At this point I think I have a usable photo for what I need it for, but it bothers me that even if you can't see the missed focus, I know it's there! A reshoot just for practice's sake is probably not a bad idea - try a smaller aperture, a different shirt, and maybe I could even squint less. :)

If you naturally squint when you smile then don't sweat it. If you try to suppress it the effort will show through to image and make it look like a fake smile. You don't want a Best Buy camera sales person smile.
