Lack of contrast is a problem i feel; the mood in the second image is more photogenic actually i thought the shave photos were self portrait Only now i recognized you are a girl

i do agreed, perhaps some minor contrast adjustment in software will bring up the pic.

Is that sarcasm, or are they actually side by side on your monitor?

Maybe my monitor just isn't big enough (1440x900), but they are one above the other, with no space between - so They very well may be side by side on a bigger monitor.


Anyway, I like the second one more, but the shadows from the umbrella are a little distracting...

Compositionally, I agree. The tilt of the head in unison with the umbrella center post creates some nice lines. The turn of the shoulders is very nice.

I'm not sure about the hand. Unfortunately, the dappled lighting on the face, probably coming through the lace of the umbrella, isn't working for me.

No, they are side by side....my monitor is a 30 inch Apple Cinema Display running at 2,560 pixels wide by 1900 tall...

I think they are a nice attempt but you need to back your flash off as it is overexposing your face in no 1 and creating distracting shadows in No 2.

So turn the flash power down and try it again.
