Session with a Yellow-crowned Night-heron

[jeffashman28 1]

I was stalking Red-winged Blackbirds, and came across this guy in the shallows of the Beaver Pond. I almost sat down on a small fire-ant mound getting these shots. I used the Sigma 150-600mm lens for this set.

Thanks! Yes, they have wonderful eyes. I was on the wrong side of the sun but had to get the shots anyway. Didn't want to wade in with the cottonmouths in the pond.

Fire ants vs cottonmouth, quite a choice.

Great set there, especially being on the wrong side of the light. They are all good but you gotta like the look in #3.

Thank you! Yeah, it's an adventure just setting up, especially in that location. Water's edge, tall grass, muck, mire... what could go wrong? Yes, #3 gives me more appreciation for the 600mm lens.
